
Baseball Uses Six-Run Third Inning to Ease Past Missouri State

Catcher Joe Servais delivered the big blow in
the third inning with a three-run double to right center field. First baseman Darin Ruf added an RBI single in the
inning and right fielder Nick Nordgren
was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run. Juniors Tony Pechek and Brandon Knox led off the inning with back-to-back singles, while
the Jays were also aided by a walk and three hit batsmen in the defining third
inning.
Bluejay
reliever Pat Venditte (2-2) came in
to get the final out of the fourth inning and went the rest of the way to earn
the victory. Venditte allowed only one run on five hits in 5.1 innings and
increased his team-leading strikeout total to 32 with four on the day.
CU starter Mike Nihsen allowed two earned runs on
five hits in 3.2 innings. MSU starter Aaron Meade (3-1) allowed six runs on
only four hits, but got in trouble with two walks and three hit batsmen in his
2.2 innings of work.
Servais and
center fielder Robbie Knight each
notched two hits on the day for Creighton, while Ruf and Cafaro each plated two
runs.
