Sophomore Andrew Duran started the Bluejay scoring in the 24th minute, when he sent a blast into the net from just five yards out. His tally was assisted by freshman Kris Clark and senior Seth Sinovic.
Thayer then scored the first of his two goals in the 29th minute when he sent an eight-yard blast from the right post following a Bluejay corner kick. Andrei Gotsmanov was credited with the assist for his corner.
Byron Dacy came off the bench and added the third first-half goal with just two second remaining on the clock in the opening frame. The junior forward finished a two-on-one breakaway, taking a feed from Thayer for the tally.
Creighton again split halves, with starters playing just 45 minutes. Time in goal was split between redshirt freshmen Brian Holt and Nick Goldreich. Both keepers recorded three saves in the shutout of the 2007 NCAA runners-up.
"We've had three stops on our journey this season and I thought that we got better at each one," said head coach Bob Warming following the match. "Our guys are pleased today, but we know we still have a lot to work on to get better."
The Bluejays open the regular-season this Friday when they play host to Gonzaga at 7:30 p.m. CU and GU will kickoff following the Bluejay women take on
NOTES: The Bluejays were able to attend a portion of Saturday night's MLS game between the Columbus Crew and Real Salt Lake. Former Bluejay standouts Ryan Junge and Andrew Peterson are both members of the Crew. The two professional players returned the favor and attended CU's match on Sunday at Ohio State.
