
Women's Basketball Tops UNI in Overtime

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Megan Neuvirth scored seven of her 22 points in overtime to help the Creighton women's basketball team come from behind and defeat Northern Iowa 67-59 Saturday afternoon at the McLeod Center. Neuvirth added 10 rebounds for her second straight double-double, while Chevelle Herring led all scorers with 23 points. The Jays out-scored UNI 11-3 in overtime, making 4-of-6 shots from the field, while the Panthers (8-17, 6-8 MVC) went 0-for-5 from the field. CU is now 17-9 on the year, 12-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Trailing 53-52, the Bluejays missed two shots but pulled down both offensive rebounds inside of 90 seconds to play. Kristina Voss was fouled after the second offensive board and went to the free-throw line. TheIowa native, playing in her last career game in her home state, stepped to the line and calmly knocked down both throws to give the Jays a 54-53 lead with 1:20 left in regulation.
DaNae Moore grabbed a steal on UNI's next trip down the floor, but Chevelle Herring gave the ball back to the Panthers with 43 seconds left. Lizzie Boeck knocked down a three-pointer with 19 seconds left to give UNI a 56-54 lead. Bluejay head coach Jim Flanery opted not to call a timeout, allowing Herring to penetrate the lane and make a tough lay-up with less than 10 seconds to play to tie the game. UNI called a timeout with 2.8 seconds left to set up a final shot. Neuvirth blocked Kim Wypiszynski's game-winning shot attempt at the buzzer and the game went to overtime tied at 56.
UNI opened the extra frame with a missed three-pointer and Neuvirth answered with a bucket to give the Jays a lead they would not surrender. Lindsey Swanson then missed her second straight three-point attempt on UNI's next trip down the court and Herring made a pull-up jumper on CU's end to give the Jay a 60-56 lead.
The Panthers cut the CU lead to two on a pair of free-throws, but Neuvirth again responded with a basket to push ahead by four. After a UNI turnover, the Bluejay junior knocked down a three-pointer to put the game out of reach, up 65-58 with 1:53 left in overtime.

The game featured 11 ties and 14 lead changes. Creighton's largest lead was nine midway through the first half, while UNI's largest lead was five midway through the second half.
Herring had a game-high 23 points. After starting the game with 3-for-3 from the floor, she missed her next eight shots, before making 6-of-8 down the stretch to finish 9-of-19. She was 3-for-8 from long range and made both of her free-throw attempts, while finishing with a game-high three steals.
Freshman Indy Uhlenhopp came off the bench to lead UNI with 12 points. Nicole Clausen chipped in 10 for the Panthers. CU out-rebounded the Panthers 36-34 and forced 17 UNI turnovers in the Jays' final regular-season road game.
Creighton returns home for its final three games of the regular-season starting with a Friday game against Drake. The Jays and Bulldogs will play the first ever regular-season women's game at Qwest Center Omaha at 7:35 p.m., on Fox Sports Net.
