OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton baseball team swept its doubleheader with Air Force by scores of 6-5 and 6-0, Wednesday at Rosenblatt Stadium. The wins move the Bluejays two games over .500 for the first time on the season at 19-17.
GAME ONE
Air Force took a quick 1-0 lead when Addison Gentry singled to right and later scored on an RBI double from Matt Alexander.
The Jays responded quickly in the bottom of the inning as Soto started the rally off with a single to right. Vicente Cafaro then reached on a single putting runners at the corners with two outs. Jimmy Swift hit a single to right, bringing in Soto for the first run of the inning. T.J. Roemmich capped the inning off with a three-run home run to left, giving CU a 4-1 advantage.
In the second the hot hitting continued as Ian Dike, Nick Becker and Robbie Knight all had hits to lead off the inning, loading the bases with no outs. Dike scored when Soto grounded into a double play.
The Air Force cut into the lead in the third as K.J. Randawa and Addison Gentry were hit by pitches. Randawa scored when Alexander doubled in the left field line. Gentry and Alexander scored as Daniel Walker hit a ball that took a funny hop over Cafaro's head, making the score 5-4 Creighton.
CU added an insurance run in the fifth as Cafaro brought home Ruf from first on an RBI-double to center, making it 6-4 in favor of the Jays.
Air Force would not go away as Nathan Carter hit a solo shot to left, cutting the CU lead to just one again at 6-5, but that's as close as the Falcons would come as Jeremy Hauer and Jack VanLeur teamed up to shut down the Air Force in the seventh.
GAME TWO
The Jays got on the board in the bottom of the third as Knight ignited a rally with his single up the middle. He moved to third as Soto executed the hit and run, and scored on Ruf's double down the left field line. Soto came around to score when Cafaro lifted a sac fly to right, making it 2-0 CU after three.
Creighton extended its lead thanks to some help from the Falcon defense in the third. With runners on first and second, Ian Dike hit a ground ball to first baseman Matt Alexander, who threw the ball away trying to get Vitale at second. This allowed Roemmich to score from second. It became 4-0 when Knight lifted a sac fly of his own to center, scoring Becker.
The game became 6-0 when Swift started a two-out rally with a single. Roemmich followed with a single of his own, and Vitale walked to load the bases. Becker then hit a single to right, plating Swift and Roemmich.
