LINCOLN, Neb. - Andrea Zuniga scored just over seven minutes into the second half as the Creighton women's soccer team finished the adidas Husker Classic with a 2-0 record as they topped North Dakota 2-0 Sunday afternoon.
Emily Orbell also had a big match, as she posted a goal and an assist. She finished the tournament with two goals and an assist and has scored at least one point in three straight matches.
The Jays controlled the shot column yet again, as they held a 21-6 margin over the Fighting Sioux. The Jays defense held UND to just two shots in the first half.
After a frustrating, scoreless first half that saw a 13-2 shot advantage for the Jays, and a Laura Nasseri shot hitting the post at the 44:02 mark, Creighton took the lead on the foot of Zuniga at 52:24 of the second half.
Zuniga's shot from the top of the penalty box beat North Dakota's Lauren Sera for her second goal of the weekend to give the Jays the only tally they would need. Orbell and Nasseri assisted on the goal.
Orbell would ice the match at the 66:55 mark with her fourth goal of the season. After taking a pass from Kyla Hoskins, Orbell beat Sera high in the upper left corner from the left side of the box for the 2-0 lead.
Kaitie Jo Swanson made her first career start between the posts for the Jays, as she made four saves for her first career win. Sera made six saves for North Dakota.
Creighton will be back at Morrison Stadium on Friday for their last non-conference match before conference matches begin against Arizona State. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
