
Women's Soccer Hosts Arizona State on Friday

This Weekend's Opponent
Creighton will be at home for three of its next four matches, beginning with Arizona State this Friday. The Sun Devils will travel to Lincoln on Sunday to face Nebraska on their Midwest swing.
Sun Devil Series
Arizona State has yet to lose to the Bluejays, as they are 2-0-0 against Creighton. ASU has 4-0 and 5-0 wins in Tempe over the Jays in 2007 and 1997 respectively.
Recent Results
Creighton will try to extend its win streak to five after winning two matches at the adidas Husker Classic in Lincoln. The Bluejays started the weekend with a 3-0 win over Akron on Friday and finished with a 2-0 win over North Dakota on Sunday.

Seventh Heaven
Creighton continued to inch its way up the NSCAA Great Lakes Regional Poll, as the Bluejays moved from ninth to seventh in this week's poll. They moved ahead of two Big Ten schools in Wisconsin (9th) and Minnesota (8th) as Purdue is currently at the top of the rankings.
Connolly Honored
Kelly Connolly played a key part in another stellar performance by the Creighton defense as she earned Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors. Connolly started both matches, playing 136 minutes and firing off three shots.
Suffocating Defense
Creighton's entire defense has been tough to crack all season, as evidenced by the first round of NCAA statistics to come out. The Bluejays lead the country in shutouts this season with seven.
Hit Me With Your Best Shot...Or Not
Creighton's defense has been superb since the start of the season and has not slowed down. The Jays did not allow an Akron shot in the first half on Friday, marking the third straight match in which CU kept a team shotless in one half.
Jays Flying Among NCAA Leaders
The NCAA came out with its first round of stats and the Jays were in the top 10 of several categories. The Jays are seventh in save percentage (.939) and ninth in goals against average (0.22).
Individuals on the Radar
Alicia Montgomery and Brittney Neumann are near the top amount the NCAA's individual leaders. Montgomery is 12th in GAA (0.26) and tied for 13th in save percentage (.929). Neumann's eight point match against South Dakota on Aug. 28 is tied for the third best individual performance in Division I this season.
We're Going Streaking!
The Jays have won four straight matches and now have seven shutouts this year. The Jays have outscored their opponents 23-2 this year and if they can record four more shutouts, the team will set a new record with 11. The original record of 10 was set back in 1997.
Tournament Tidbits
The adidas Husker Classic was the 41st time Creighton has played in a tournament/classic setting. The Bluejays have gone 2-0-0 in the format nine times, with the last time coming in 2005 at the Bluejay Classic with wins over Northern Illinois (1-0) and North Dakota State (3-0). CU's all-time record in regular season tournaments is 42-33-7.
Coming Zoon: More Goals
Andrea Zuniga scored the first two goals of her Bluejay and collegiate career this weekend, posting one on Friday and one on Sunday in Lincoln. Zuniga spent her first year in Lincoln with the Cornhuskers before redshirting last year to train with the Chilean U-20 National Team.
Orbell Keeps Rolling
Emily Orbell continued her recent tear as she scored five points on two goals and an assist this weekend. After scoring just two points in Creighton's first five matches (1g/0a), Orbell has scored in the last four, scoring three goals and dishing out four assists. Her 11 points on the season is good for second on the team, one point behind Brittney Neumann.
Arizona State at a Glance
The Sun Devils are 4-1-1 to start the season. They are currently ranked fourth in the NSCAA Pacific Region Poll after a tie with eighth ranked Virginia, and were picked to finish seventh in the rugged Pac-10. They are led by Alexandra Elston, who has three goals on the season. Karin Volpe and Kiara Williams both have two goals as well.
Jays vs. the Pac-10
The Bluejays will be looking for their first win over a Pac-10 opponent. The Jays are 0-7-0 all-time against the league with marks of 0-3-0 vs. Arizona, 0-2-0 vs. Arizona State, 0-1-0 vs California and 0-1-0 vs. Southern California.
A Good Trend
Emily Orbell has been one of the most consistent scorers for the Bluejays in her three years with the team. In fact, Creighton is a whopping 19-1-0 when Orbell scores at least one point.
Swanson Delivers in Debut
Kaitie Jo Swanson made her first collegiate start in goal vs. North Dakota on Sunday. The freshman took care of business with four saves and her first victory. It was her first appearance since her debut against South Dakota on Aug. 28.
Not Your Average Keeper
Two Creighton records that have a chance to be broken are the individual and team goals against average marks. Alicia Montgomery's 0.26 GAA would be could for the single season record, breaking a 20-year old record set by Anne Hobday with a 0.40 mark. The team mark was set in 2003 when the Jays had a team GAA of 0.81.
