OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton rebounded after losing its first two duals of the week, as the Jays used a balanced all-around effort to top North Dakota (0-1), 6-1, Saturday evening at the Koch Family Tennis Center.
"North Dakota was really scrappy, and gave us more trouble then the score indicated," said head coach Tom Lilly. "We worked on a couple things in doubles and our movement was a lot better, so that was good to see," Lilly added.
The Jays (1-2) swept all three doubles matches to start the evening. Kelsey Schmidt and Lindsey Erickson cruised past Chelsea Galipeau and Megan Sween 8-1 at No. 3 doubles. Leesa and Sarah Cadwallader continued the strong play with another 8-1 win, this one coming at No. 2 doubles over Katie Callison and Emma Larson. Tess Reddin and Anna Kirshenbaum capped the sweep with an 8-5 triumph over Erin Kappers and Hallie Welk.
Creighton continued its dominance with four straight victories in singles to take a 5-0 lead. Reddin made it 2-0 Jays with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Callison at No. 1, Schmidt topped Welk, 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3, Erickson cruised past Galipeau 7-6, 6-2 at No. 4 and Mary Pat McMullan topped Sween, 6-3, 6-2.
North Dakota picked up its lone victory via Larson at No. 6. She topped Leesa Cadwallader 6-4, 6-4 to give the Fighting Sioux its only dual point.
The Jays wrapped up the 6-1 romp with a Kirshenbaum, three-set victory over Kappers at No. 2, by a 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 count.
The Jays will return to the court on Tuesday when they host Arkansas-Little Rock. Action will start at 12:30 p.m. at the Koch Family Tennis Center.
