
Sophie Schwartz Earns All-BIG EAST Second Team Recognition

OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton women's tennis sophomore Sophie Schwartz earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team, the league announced on Thursday, April 30.
A native of Coppell, Texas, Schwartz combined for 17 wins, including a team-high 10 doubles wins, mainly at the top spot. Three of Schwartz's 10 doubles win came against BIG EAST opponents, including a thrilling 7-6 (7-0) tiebreaking win over Butler's Chase Metcalf and Brooke Arington to clinch the doubles point in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament.
The standout sophomore also finished the 2026 season with seven wins at the top singles position, with six of the seven victories coming via straight sets. In limited league action, Schwartz went 2-1 against BIG EAST competition, posting straight set wins over Marquette's Elise Barnstedt (6-1, 6-4) and Providence's Camila Barrera (6-1, 6-3).
Combined with her eight wins in the fall, Schwartz racked up 25 combined wins while guiding the Bluejays to a 14-7 overall record and the first perfect home slate in program history.
Xavier's Abby Nugent was unanimously named BIG EAST Player of the Year, while Seton Hall's Kira Farrakhova nabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Year. In addition, Xavier's Doug Matthews and his staff were named the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year.
