
Women's Basketball Blows Out North Dakota, 96-57

OMAHA, Neb. - Five Bluejays scored in double figures as the Creighton women's basketball team posted a 96-57 win over North Dakota Monday night at D.J. Sokol Arena. The highest scoring game by the Bluejays since 2003 was keyed by a season-high 61.1 field-goal percentage by the home team. Creighton also finished with season-highs in three-pointers (12), assists (24), steals (12) and blocked shots (9). Kelsey Woodard led the Bluejays with 19 points, as all 10 players which saw playing time had an assist and seven of the 10 Bluejays scored at least nine points.
The Bluejays (6-4) rattled off an 11-0 run to take control of the game midway through the first half. Trailing 11-9, the Jays scored 11 unanswered points to move the score to 20-11 after a fastbreak layup by Woodard. The Jays closed the half with a 12-4 burst to push to their largest lead of the first half, up 41-21 at the break.
Creighton had already posted a season-high in blocked shots in the first half, with six blocks in the opening 20 minutes. The Jays used eight steals on 14 first-half UND turnovers to out-score the Fighting Sioux 17-2 in points off turnovers in the opening half. Woodard scored 12 of her team-high 19 points in the first half.
North Dakota (1-8) never got closer than 20 points in the second half, as Creighton made 67.9 percent of its shot in the second half, including 7-of-11 (.636) from long range. Creighton's 39-point margin of victory was its largest lead of the night, as the Jays closed the game on an 18-4 run to seal the blowout.
Woodard finished 5-of-8 from the field, 2-of-4 from three-point range and 7-of-8 from the free throw line for her team-best 19 points. Sam Schuett had 16 points and game-high three blocked shots, making 3-of-7 three-pointers in the win. Ally Jensen drained 4-of-7 threes in the win and finished with 14 points. Kellie Nelson and Sarah Nelson both finished with 12 points, as the sister duo combined to go 9-for-12 from the field.
Carli Tritz scored nine points, making all four of her field goal attempts in her first career start. Fellow freshman McKenzie Fujan finished with a career-best nine points in 13 minutes off the bench. Jasmin Corbin led the Jays with a career-high five assists and DaNae Moore led the team with a career-best three steals.
UND was paced by Allyssa Wall's career-high 22 points. UND committed 25 turnovers and Creighton out-scored the Sioux 26-7 in points off turnovers.
The Bluejays finished with season-bests in points (96), field goals (33), field-goal percentage (.611), three-pointers (12), assists (24), steals (12) and blocked shots (9).
Creighton will conclude its non-conference schedule on Wednesday with just the second women's game ever played at Qwest Center Omaha, home of the CU men's team. The Bluejays host Kansas (10-1) for a 5:30 tip as the front end of a doubleheader with the men's team.
