OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton Women's Tennis squad had a tough act to follow with the men holding Nebraska-Wesleyan to no more than three games won in any set.
The Bluejays (10-4) surrendered just four games in singles and nine overall, as they blasted Nebraska-Wesleyan (7-7), 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the Koch Family Tennis Courts. The win was the ninth straight for the Jays, as they are one win shy of tying a school record for consecutive victories.
The Jays' closest matches came at doubles, as Tess Reddin and Lindsey Erickson handled Terah Maloley and Taylor Powers, 8-3 at No. 3. That's the closest the Prairie Wolves would get, as Leesa and Sarah Cadwallader blanked Chelsea Henslee and Molly Andrews at No. 1, 8-0, and Kelsey Schmidt and Anna Kirshenbaum dropped Andrea Dasilva and Erica Dickmeyer at No. 2, 8-2.
The Jays turned the dual into a laugher in singles, as Reddin and Sarah Cadwallader both turned in flawless wins over Henslee and Vanessa Johnson at No. 1 and 6 respectively.
Two-through-fifth singles were easy wins for CU as well as all four matches were 6-1, 6-0 results. Kirshenbaum topped Maloley at No. 2, Lauren Mastro nabbed a Dasilva at No. 3, Schmidt earned a win over Dickmeyer at No. 4 and Lindsey Erickson recorded a win over Andrews at No. 5.
Cadwallader's insertion in the singles lineup was just her second all spring, as she lost a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Emma Larson of North Dakota back on Jan. 30.
Reddin and Kirshenbaum have led the Jays on their run of success this season, as the two have win streaks at singles of 10 and nine matches respectively.
Creighton will dive into MVC play tomorrow, as they take on Drake. Match time is 12:00 p.m. back at the Koch Family Courts.
