OMAHA, Neb. - Christine Koehler of the Creighton women's rowing team has been accepted to attend the 2010 USRowing Women's National Team Pre-Elite Camp this summer. She is one of just 16 rowers accepted nationally to attend the camp focused on developing athletes for the Under 23 and Senior National Teams.
"I am thrilled for Christine," said Bluejay crew head coach Dan Chipps. "She has worked incredibly hard over the last two years. To come to Creighton with zero rowing experience and to reach this level so quickly shows the dedication she has for the sport."
The 2010 USRowing Women's National Team Pre-Elite Camp is intended to develop athletes for the U23 and Senior National Teams. The goal of the camp is to teach skills necessary to compete at the elite level by introducing and developing sculling, focusing on small boats, gaining fitness and increasing strength to weight ratio. Athletes will train intensely with 2-3 practices per day and will row primarily in small boats and/or scull, and they will have opportunities to race throughout the summer.
The camp starts on June 6 at the Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia, Pa. The camp will compete at the Independence Day Regatta in Philadelphia on July 2-4 and at USRowing Club Nationals in Oak Ridge, Tenn., on July 14-18.
Creighton hosts its only home regatta of the spring, the Upper Midwest Collegiate Sprints, this Sunday at Carter Lake.
