OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton was looking for its first ever three-game season sweep of Nebraska on Tuesday night at Rosenblatt Stadium.
Nebraska had other ideas.
The Huskers (24-27) jumped ahead with five quick runs in the first inning, piling on 21 total, as they topped Creighton, 21-5, in the final meeting between the two schools at Rosenblatt Stadium.
Creighton (24-22) allowed season highs in runs, hits, doubles, RBI and total bases, as Nebraska scored no less than three runs in each of the first five innings.
Every starter in the Nebraska lineup had at least two hits, as Adam Bailey went 3-for-7 with a double, home run and eight RBI. Kyle Bubak and DJ Belfonte each had four hits as Belfonte's three doubles tied a Nebraska single game record.
Doubles were name of the game on Tuesday, as the 14 combined two-baggers for both teams were ninth-most in NCAA history. Nebraska had 11 of them, which were a Big 12 conference record.
Five different Bluejays had multiple hits as well, as Ian Dike posted three hits, including his sixth home run of the season. Scott Thornburg had two doubles and Trever Adams recorded his third home run in the last four games, as the Bluejays bested the Huskers in the home run column, 2-to-1.
Greg Hellhake (1-1) allowed five runs in the first inning, all of them unearned after two errors, to fall to 1-1 on the season. Luke Bublitz earned the win for Nebraska, allowing one earned run on four hits in three innings.
Mark Winkelman and Kurt Spomer were the only Creighton pitchers of the eight that threw that did not allow a run. Winkelman struck out two in a scoreless seventh, while Spomer allowed just one hit in the final two innings.
Creighton will be in action on Thursday when they take on New Orleans. First pitch will be at 4 p.m. at the CU Sports Complex.
