Scouting the No. 7 Creighton Bluejays (5-1-1):
After splitting two matches last weekend in the Creighton Invitational, the Creighton Bluejays are looking to begin a new winning streak as the Jays host Saint Louis on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
The Bluejays lead the overall series with Saint Louis 8-5-2, including a 0-0 (2ot) draw the last time the two teams met on Oct. 4, 2008 in St. Louis, Mo. The last time the Billikens came to Omaha, Creighton defeated Saint Louis 1-0 on Sept. 4, 1998.
Following the loss to No. 14 Old Dominion on Friday, the Jays found their offensive spark from freshmen Timo Pitter and Eric DeJulio. The two Creighton newcomers each scored their first goal as a Jay to help lift the Bluejays to a 2-1 comeback victory over William & Mary on Sunday.
Eight different players have scored at least one goal for Creighton in the Jays' first seven contests. In 2011, 12 Jays scored one goal or more in 24 matches.
Junior Sean Kim remains atop the Jays offensive categories with three goals and six point, but senior Jose Gomez and freshman Christian Blandon are just a step behind with two goals and an assist on the season.
For the second consecutive week, Creighton split time in the net as sophomore Alex Bolowich got the call against No. 14 Old Dominion, while freshman Jeff Gal earned the start against William & Mary. The two remain very close as Gal is 3-0-0 with 11 saves and a 0.67 Goals Against Average (GAA). Bolowich, meanwhile, is 2-1-1 this season with 20 saves, a 0.71 GAA and two shutouts.
Scouting the Saint Louis Billikens (4-2-0):
The Billikens played just one match last week, earning a 4-1 victory over Evansville on Sept. 15. Before that contest, Saint Louis suffered a 2-1 overtime loss at Denver on Sept. 8.
Saint Louis has not beaten Creighton in Omaha, falling in each of the previous three visits.
The Billikens are led offensively by junior Adnan Gabeljic with three goals and one assist this season. Gaebeljic has two game-winning goals this season for SLU on just seven shots. Junior defender Jon Roeckle has also made a surprising impact on the offensive end with two goals and two assists.
Saint Louis has already defeated one ranked opponent on the road in 2012, besting
No. 18 Louisville, 1-0, on Sept. 4.
In goal the Billikens have turned to junior Nick Shackelford in every match thus far. Shackelford has allowed six goals for a 0.99 GAA, recording 25 saves for a .806 save percentage.
