OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton men's soccer team begins its second road trip of the 2012 season as the Jays will battle Tulsa in Oklahoma on Tuesday, Sept. 25.
Scouting the No. 7 Creighton Bluejays (5-2-1):
The Bluejays suffered a 3-1 loss to Saint Louis in their lone game last weekend. Creighton takes to the road for the second time this season as the Jays face Tulsa in Oklahoma on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
The Bluejays lead the overall series with Tulsa 15-8-2, including a 3-1 win over the Golden Hurricane on Oct. 5, 2010 in Omaha. The last time the Jays went to Tulsa was on Sept. 23, 2005, a 1-0 loss.
Freshman Timo Pitter scored his second goal of the season in the Jays' 3-1 loss to the Billikens. Pitter and senior Jose Gomez, who assisted Pitter's goal, moved into a three-way tie for the team lead in scoring with junior Sean Kim. Kim still leads the team with three goals, while Pitter and Gomez each have two goals and two assists.
The three goals allowed by the Creighton defense raised their total to eight goals allowed in 2012. The Jays limited opponents to just five goals in 2011.
In two road contests this season, Creighton posted consecutive 1-0 victories over Santa Clara (Sept. 7) and Saint Mary's (Sept. 9).
Scouting the Tulsa Golden Hurricane (5-3-0):
Tulsa exploded for 12 goals in two matches last week, downing Oakland 7-4 on Sept. 16 and defeating South Carolina, 4-0, on Sept. 21. The 11 goals more than doubled the 10 goals Tulsa scored in its first six matches.
Creighton will be the third ranked opponent that the Golden Hurricane have faced in 2012. Tulsa defeated No. 3 New Mexico, 2-1 (ot), on Aug. 31 and fell to No. 4 South Florida, 2-1, on Sept. 2.
Freshman Cristian Mata leads the Golden Hurricane with 13 points (six goals and one assist), while sophomore Akeil Barrett is just a step behind at 12 points (five goals and two assists).
In goal Tulsa has turned to senior Mark Pais in every match thus far. Pais has allowed 11 goals for a 1.38 Goals Against Average (GAA), recording 25 saves for a .694 save percentage.
