
Men?s Soccer Suffers a 2-1 Downfall to Providence in BIG EAST Tourney

Fifth-seeded Creighton (9-8-2, 4-4-1 BIG EAST), playing without two of its top three scorers, allowed fourth-seeded Providence (12-4-2, 6-3-0 BIG EAST) to jump out to a 2-0 lead and could not recover. The Jays were without freshman Fabian Herbers and junior Jose Ribas, who served one-game suspensions Tuesday after each incurred a fifth yellow card on the season in Friday's match versus the Friars.
Providence got on the scoreboard first with just 10 seconds remaining before halftime. Wilder Arboleda scored his third of the season from beyond 20 yards out to put the Friars up 1-0.
The Friars led 11-3 in shot attempts in the first half. PC also led corner kicks 4-0 at the break.
Sophomore Connor Sparrow played the second half in goal for the Bluejays after junior Alex Bolowich started the match.
PC extended its lead to 2-0 in the 64th minute as Dominik Machado connected on his second goal of the season.
Late in the second half, Creighton sophomore Eric DeJulio scored his second goal of the season off of a corner kick by senior Bruno Castro in the 87th minute to cut the Friars' lead to 2-1. Providence held off Creighton in the final minutes to secure the victory.
The Friars finished the match with a 15-shot advantage of 25-10 and led corner kick attempts 8-3.
Bolowich finished with one save. Sparrow made five saves on the day. Providence goalkeeper Keasel Broome improved to 12-4-2 on the year with the win.
Providence advances to play top-seeded Georgetown in a BIG EAST Semifinal match on Friday. The 2013 NCAA Men's Soccer Selection Show takes place on Monday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. CT on NCAA.com.
