Scouting Creighton (8-3-0, 0-2-0 BIG EAST):
Coming off a seven game win streak to open the season, Creighton has seen a couple of bumps in the road over the past two weeks.
The Bluejays' best start to a season came to a close in the 2-0 loss to UMKC on Sept. 19, but Creighton bounced back for a thrilling 2-1 (2OT) win at Omaha on Sept. 21.
Unfortunately the start of the BIG EAST season was not as kind. The Bluejays suffered a 7-2 loss at Marquette, followed by a hard fought 1-0 loss at home to St. John's.
Creighton's offensive attack features three players with 10+ points in juniors Kirstyn Corder (13), Alyssa Jara (12) and sophomore Lauren Sullivan (13).
Defensively sophomore Danielle Rice has already posted three shutout in goal this season. Rice has a 1.55 goals against average (GAA), allowing 17 goals in 11 matches.
Scouting Providence (5-4-2, 1-1-0 BIG EAST):
After starting the season at 1-3-2, the Friars rattled off four straight wins before falling to DePaul last Sunday. Providence's win streak was highlighted by a 2-0 win over conference foe, Seton Hall. The Friars come to Omaha with a 2-1-0 record on the road.
The Providence offense can by summarized in one name, Catherine Zimmerman. The junior forward has five goals and four assists (14 points), while the rest of the Friars have a combined seven goals and five assists (19 points).
Sophomore Kristyn Shea has played every second in goal for the Friars this season (1037:25), She has allowed just 10 goals in 11 matches, a 0.87 GAA. With four shutouts this season, Shea has not allowed more than two goals in 2014.
Scouting Seton Hall (3-6-2, 0-2-0 BIG EAST):
The Pirates own victories over Marist, Army and Long Island-Brooklyn this season, scoring six of their seven goals on the season in those contests. Seton Hall has suffered seven shutouts.
Six players have scored one goal for Seton Hall, while its seventh goal was an own goal.
Sophomore Illissa Blackshear has taken the reigns as the primary goalkeeper, allowing eight goals in nine matches for a 0.92 GAA. She has nabbed 39 saves in 779:21.
Corder has fond memories of Providence and Seton Hall
Junior Kirstyn Corder notched two of her bigger goals as a Bluejay against the Friars and Pirates last season as she was credited with the game-winner in each game last year.
Versus Providence, Kirstyn tapped in a pass from Darby Hugunin in the 61st minute to give Creighton a 3-1 lead. The Bluejays held on for the 3-2 win.
At Seton Hall Corder provided the only goal of the game, punching in a pass from Madelyn Buckner.
Erickson's Impact
During Bruce Erickson's 16 seasons, Creighton has opened conference play at 0-3 just once, that coming in 2012.
