Volleyball Sweeps Providence For Ninth Straight Win

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Creighton Volleyball team won its ninth straight match with a 3-0 win at Providence on Friday night, earning the sweep by scores of 25-15, 25-10, 25-12.
The win moves Creighton (21-7, 1-1 BIG EAST) one victory shy of the program's first BIG EAST title with three matches to play.
Jess Bird had 12 kills on .550 hitting to pace a balanced Bluejay attack. Lauren Smith had 11 kills on .429 hitting and Kelli Browning added nine kills on .571 hitting.
Creighton finished with 49 kills, six aces, 63 digs and five blocks on .351 hitting.
Providence was keyed by six kills by Kayla Johnson. The Friars had 21 kills, one ace, 44 digs and two blocks on .045 hitting overall.
Creighton returns to the court on Saturday with a 4 pm Central match at St. John's. The match will be carried live on BIG EAST Digital Network.
