
Bluejays' WBB Falls to #1 UConn, 96-60

STORRS, Conn. - Playing the two-time defending national champions, the Creighton women's basketball team fell at #1 Connecticut, 96-60, on Sunday, Nov. 23. The loss dropped the Bluejays to 2-2 on the season, while the Huskies moved to 2-1.
Turnovers plagued the Bluejays in the first half as UConn bounced out to a 13-3 lead in the opening four minutes of play. Creighton stayed in the game by connecting from long range as senior Sammy Jensen, junior Marissa Janning and sophomore MC McGrory dialed long distance successfully to make it 15-9 (13:40). The Huskies responded with 10 straight points and went on to take a 49-28 lead into half.
Connecticut pushed its lead to 30 (64-34) in the opening four minutes of the second half and went on to collect the win, 96-60.
Creighton finished the game 13-of -30 (43.3%) from beyond the arc, while five players reached double-figures for the Huskies.
Janning led the Bluejays with 15 points, while Akin-Otiko posted 12 points.
The 2014 National Player of the Year, Breanna Stewart, closed the game with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Stewart was a perfect 10-for-10 from the field in the win.
Creighton returns to action on Nov. 28 as the Bluejays begin play in the Cal Classic at 9:30 pm (CT) against Cincinnati.
