Series with St. John's
The Bluejays and Red Storm have met five times, including three in 2013-14. St. John's holds a 3-2 series edge, posting two wins last year. Creighton won the meetting between the two squads in Omaha.
Scouting St. John's (12-3, 3-1 BIG EAST)
One of the preseason favorites in the BIG EAST, St. John's bounced out to a 10-0 mark to open the 2014-15 season. The Red Storm suffered their first loss on Dec. 21, a double overtime loss to Indiana State (73-67). St. John's responded with wins at Providence and over Seton Hall to move to 13-1. The Red Storm, however, fell against Connecticut last Sunday (70-54) and were upset by Butler (55-50) on Friday.
A strong defensive team, St. John's is holding opponents to just 53.1 ppg this season. The Red Storm have limited their opposition to 50 points or less in eight games.
The offense for the Red Storm is focused through two players, Aliyyah Handford and Danaejah Grant. The duo combine for 37.7 points per game.
Keys to the Game w/St. John's:
- Contol the tempo by controlling the ball: St. John's likes to cause chaos defensively, then take advantage of the mistakes. The Red Storm create just under seven steals per game.
- Force the Ball Away from Handford or Grant: With a team so dependant on two players, it is important to make the rest of the team beat you. Handford had 27 points in the Red Storm's loss to Butler, but Grant had just six on 2-of-13 from the field. The duo took 30 of St. John's 59 shots against the Bulldogs.
