OMAHA, Neb. -- Freshman Martin Krampelj won the slam dunk contest and the Blue team won both halves as Creighton men's basketball hosted its annual Bluejay Madness at D.J. Sokol Arena on Saturday evening in Omaha.
A couple injuries trimmed the dunk contestants from seven to four, all of them newcomers. Krampelj and fellow freshman Khyri Thomas advanced to the finals over Malik Albert and Justin Patton. In the final round, Krampelj took off from just inside the free-throw line for his dunk, while Thomas missed several attempts in his allotted 30 seconds.
The night started out with a pair of 12-minute halves.
The Blue team won that half 32-16 behind 10 points from Maurice Watson Jr. and seven more by Toby Hegner, while Patton had three dunks to help account for his eight points.
The second half featured eight points from Krampelj, including a pair of three-pointers from the slam dunk champ. Thomas paced the White squad with 10 points.
The fans were also treated to a fun video the team put together, where several current Bluejays spoofed a day in the life of the Bluejay basketball coaching staff.
