Bluejay WBB Falls to #19 Northwestern, 75-52

Austin, Texas - Battling the #19 Northwestern Wildcats in the second game of the Lone Star Showcase on Friday, Nov. 27, the Creighton women's basketball team dropped a 75-52 contest.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Lone Star Showcase, while Northwestern moved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Blue Bracket of the Lone Star Showcase.
A scoreless draught in the opening five minutes of play saw the Bluejays dig a 13-0 hole before junior MC McGrory knocked down a three-point shot from the right wing. Northwestern, however, continued to apply pressure as the Wildcats led by as much as 16 (19-3) with 2:35 left in the period. The Bluejays closed the quarter on a 7-4 run, including a trey from Janning.
Northwestern pushed its lead to 18 early in the second period, 28-10 with 7:45 left, but the Bluejays rallied with a 5-0 run to make it 28-15 (5:28). Down 40-22 in the closing seconds of the period, the Bluejays closed the period on the high note with a layup from freshman Ali Greene as the half ended.
Creighton was held to 10-of-32 from the field in the first half (31 %), but was just 3-of-16 (19%) from long range.
The Bluejays' shooting difficulties continued in the second half as Northwestern extended its lead to 28 (61-33) and coasted to the 75-52 win.
Janning led the way for Creighton with 14 points and second rebounds.
Northwestern got 21 points from Maggie Lyon to lead all scorers, while Nia Coffey posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Creighton will wrap up play in the Lone Star Showcase on Saturday, Nov. 28 against Eastern Washington at 5:00 pm.
