Scouting Providence (5-19, 2-11 BIG EAST)
Providence and Creighton are heading in different directions entering play on Sunday as the Friars have dropped 11 of their last 12 contests.
One item that could change things on Sunday is if Tori Rule can return. The Friars' leading scorer (13.6 ppg), Rule has missed the last nine contests with an undisclosed injury. Without Rule the Friars are 1-8.
Providence will be without the service of starting point guard Sarah Beal, who has been sidelined since Jan. 2. Beal underwent surgery on Feb. 2 and will miss the remainder of the 2014-15 season.
Without two of their primary ball handlers the Friars are averaging just under 18 turnovers per game (18.8 in BIG EAST play).
Keys to the Game w/Providence:
- Continue the play of the past four games: Creighton's increased focus on defense has led to a five-game win streak. The Bluejays must continue to focus on both ends of the court..
- Take care of the ball: Providence will pressure the basketball as much as possible. With eight steals per game, the Friars want to cause chaos.
- Get Janning going early: Junior Marissa Janning has thrived since returning to the point guard role. One key has been her ability to score early, then get the rest of her teammates involved.
Creighton vs. Cancer - Pink Out
Sunday's game against Providence is a “Pink Out” and fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of cancer awareness.
The first 1,000 fans will receive a commemorative pink Creighton Vs. Cancer t-shirt sponsored by the Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center and CHI Health.
