
Works Knocks Down Five Treys as Women's Hoops Cruises to 84-57 Win

OMAHA, Neb. - Led by a combined 65 points from junior Marissa Janning (25), freshman Sydney Lamberty (16) and sophomore Lauren Works (15), the Creighton women's basketball team cruised to an 84-57 win over Providence on Sunday, Feb. 15.
The win extends Creighton's streak to six games as the Bluejays moved to 15-10 overall and 8-6 in BIG EAST action. Providence, meanwhile, fell to 5-20 on the season and 2-12 in conference play.
The Bluejays spread the basketball around in the opening six minutes, getting buckets from six different players to build a 16-6 edge at the 13:13 mark. Creighton went on to push its lead to as much as 19 points (37-18) late in the first half (3:21). Janning notched 16 of her 25 points in the first 20 minutes to send the Bluejays into the locker room up 42-25.
Providence pulled within 13 points (48-35) early in the second period, but Creighton responded with a 14-2 run to put the game away. Works led the Bluejay surge as she hit her fourth and fifth three-pointers of the afternoon. Works' 15 points set a new career-high. She hit her first five three-pointers and finished the game 5-of-6.
Long range shooting powered the Bluejays as Creighton hit 7-of-13 (53.8%) from beyond the arc in each half. Creighton's 14 trifectas tied a season-high from beyond the arc. The Bluejays also knocked down 14 treys at South Dakota State on Nov. 18.
Creighton returns to action on Friday, Feb. 20 as the Bluejays battle DePaul at 7 p.m. inside D.J. Sokol Arena.
