The Wolverines followed with a win over San Francisco, but has dropped six of seven since.
Utah Valley has struggled on the mound, giving up double digit runs in four of its last five games. One of the big problems for the Wolverines' pitching staff has been walks. Utah Valley has given out 79 free passes in 15 games, over five per contest.
At the plate the Wolverines are hitting .245 as a team, led by .310 from Spencer Gothberg.
DeCaster and Gerber Each Reach Milestones in Win at Kanasa State
Freshman Ethan DeCaster and sophomore David Gerber recorded their first win (DeCaster) and save (Gerber) respectively. DeCaster earned the win with a timely strikeout in the bottom of the fifth. After the Bluejays put up four runs in the top of the sixth, Gerber closed the door with four dominant innings of relief.
Gerber Bucking for Closer Role
Entering the 2015 season with a total of three innings pitched as a freshman, David Gerber is turning some heads this season. Gerber has allowed just two earned runs in 8.2 innings of relief.
The more impressive stat, however, is that Gerber has recorded nine strikeout and has not walked a batter. With his first save on Wednesday, Gerber is making a case to get the ball in save situations.
Fowler Getting Hot
After opening the season 10-for-39 (.256) in the first 10 games, junior Reagan Fowler appears to be warming up with five hits in nine at-bats at Kansas State (March 10-11).
