
Early Offense Sends Baseball to an 8-2 Win over Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - Five early runs propelled the Creighton baseball team to an 8-2 win over Omaha on Tuesday, April 21.
The win lifted Creighton to 22-11 on the season, while Omaha fell to 17-20 overall.
The speed of sophomore Daniel Woodrow got the Bluejays off to a quick start in the bottom of the first. Woodrow reached on an infield single and quickly stole second and scampered home on an RBI single by junior Brett Murray.
After the first two men were retired in the second the Bluejays tacked on three runs as senior Landon Lucansky ripped a double down the right field line and scored. Senior Kevin Lamb followed with a walk, then Woodrow reached on an infield single. An errant throw allowed each Lucansky to score the second Bluejay run of the game. Moments later, sophomore Nicky Lopez made the most of his at-bat with a two-run single to right to make it 4-0.
Creighton added a run in the third on a single by Murray, a ground out and an RBI single to center from Ryan Fitzgerald.
The Bluejays final three runs came in the seventh on a RBI singles from Fitzgerald and Lucansky as well as a wild pitch that brought home junior Matt Gandy.
On the bump 10 different pitchers saw action for Creighton. Starter Matt Warren got the win (3-2) with a scoreless inning of action. Senior Jack Rogalla made his return to mound for the first time since February, getting one out in the fifth frame.
Omaha starter Mitch Larson took the loss (0-2), allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits in 1.2 innings.
The Bluejays are back in action on Friday, April 24 as Creighton begins a three-game series with Butler at 2:00 pm.
