
Creighton Athletic Hall of Fame Inducts Four

OMAHA, Neb. -- Tammy Nielsen Winkler, Chad McConnell, David Wright and Tony Barone were inducted into the Creighton Athletic Hall of Fame during a Thursday evening banquet at the DoubleTree by Hilton Omaha Downtown Hotel.
Winkler was a standout softball player who starred on the diamond from 2003-05, McConnell was a baseball star from 1990-92, while Wright dominated on the pitch with the men's soccer team from 1996-99. Barone was head coach for the men's basketball program from 1985-91.
Ruth and Bill Scott were honored as Joseph J. Vinardi "Jaybacker of the Year".
The prestigious Carl M. Reinert, S.J., Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were handed out to Vincent Keller (men's soccer), Jennie Hartjes (women's tennis) and Courtney Sawle (women's cross country).
For the fifth year in a row, Creighton honored its top teams in each gender. The volleyball team earned the top women's honor, while soccer took home the top men's award.
Individually, Kelli Browning (Volleyball) and Fabian Herbers (men's soccer) were recognized as CU's Athletes of the Year.
