Men's Basketball Ends Italy Trip With 101-49 Win

FOLIGNO, Italy – Creighton Men's Basketball picked up a 101-49 victory over host Foligno Basket in the final contest of a three-game trip through Italy on Wednesday. Creighton won the three games by an average of 67 points, cracking the 100-point barrier in each contest.
Creighton won each of the first three quarters by 14 points or more before a late barrage of three-pointers from Foligno saw the hosts tie the fourth frame at 23-all.
Cole Huff led CU with nine points in the first quarter, making 4-of-5 shots, as CU raced to a 31-12 lead. Nine players would score for CU in the second quarter, which CU dominated to the tune of 27-8 to build a 58-20 lead into the intermission.
Creighton then scored the first 13 points after the break to end any chance of a big comeback. The Jays won that stanza 20-6 to take a 78-26 margin into the final 10-minute quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Foligno drained 5-of-10 three-point shots to play even with the Jays. Raul Cardenas led the hosts with 15 points on the day, including four trifectas. Foligno shot 31.5 percent overall and had 34 turnovers on the day.
Huff led CU with 16 points, while Khyri Thomas had 15 points and a team-leading nine rebounds. Also in double-figures were Mo Watson Jr. (13) and James Milliken (11). Creighton shot 52.9 percent overall, owned a 52-24 rebound margin, and claimed 20 steals. The Jays also enjoyed a 54-10 advantage in the paint, outscored Foligno 39-18 off turnovers, 25-3 after offensive rebounds and 29-0 in fast break situations.
For the trip, Creighton had five men average in double-figures, with all five seeing their first action in Blue & White. Cole Huff's 14.3 points per game led the team on the trip, just ahead of Thomas (13.7), Malik Albert (12.7), Martin Krampelj (12.0) and Watson (10.3). Watson led the squad with 20 assists on the trip, while Thomas, Krampelj and returner Zach Hanson paced the club with 19 rebounds overall.
The Bluejays will enjoy their last full day in Italy on Thursday, with a trip to the Colosseum in the plans. The team then flies home from Rome on Friday.
