Cross Country Teams Finish Second in Season-Opening Augie Twilight

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Creighton men's and women's cross country teams each took second place in the Augustana Twilight Invitational on Friday evening. Creighton, Nebraska and Omaha were among the 23 schools participating in the university and college divisions at this year's run at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Nebraska swept the titles by claiming team victories on both the men and women's side in the University division.
Nebraska's Bonnie Smith finished the 3-mile run first overall with a time of 16:48. Nebraska's Peter Spinks won the men's 4-mile event with an 18:57 time.
Freshman Lauren Ogg placed second overall, posting a time of 17:07 in her collegiate debut. Junior Maddie Ivy finished third, seconds behind Ogg, with a 17:24 time. Freshmen Alexis Altmaier and Emily Martin finished seventh and eighth with times of 17:34 and 17:40. Senior Emily Mauser finished 11th posting a time of 17:58 to round out the women's top five.
Junior Matt Piercy was the top finisher for the Bluejays on the men's side, finishing fifth with a time of 19:27. Junior Eric Klein also finished inside the top-10, placing ninth and posting a time of 19:59. Sophomore Jacob Ohnstad and freshman Spencer DeJong finished 12th and 13th with times of 20:40 and 20:41. To complete the top five for the Bluejays, junior Michael Holdsworth placed 15th, posting a 21:06 finish time.
Creighton's Garrett Kenyon, who is redshirting this fall, ran unattached and finished first in the college division with a time of 18:43.
The Bluejays will be back in action at the Woody Greeno Invitational on Sept. 19 at Pioneers Park in Lincoln, Neb.
