Creighton WBB Seeks Fresh Start at Georgetown
1/2/2016 2:01:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Omaha, Neb. - Coming off a couple of close losses at home to St. John's and Seton Hall, the Creighton women's basketball team is looking for a fresh start to BIG EAST play in the new year as the Bluejays battle Georgetown on Sunday, Jan. 3 at 11 am (CT).
Bird Seeds
The Bluejays have claimed each of the four meetings between these new conference foes, but it has been far from one sided. Creighton is 2-0 at Georgetown, posting a 65-63 overtime win on Jan. 1, 2014. Last year in DC, Creighton earned a 71-62 win.

Scouting Georgetown (7-5, 0-2 BIG EAST)
After opening the season with six wins in their first eight games, the Hoyas have dropped three of four. The two losses to open BIG EAST play were particularly tough as Georgetown fell at Xavier by just five, then dropped a six point decision on Butler.
Led by freshman Dionna White and sophomore Dorothy Adomako, Georgetown is a very young team. Adomako was unavailable against Butler on Thursday and her status for Sunday's matchup is uncertain.
White leads the Hoyas with 14.3 points per game and despite her small size, she stands just 5'5'', While averages 5.8 rebounds per game as well. Another attribute brought by White is her ability to pick her opponent's pockets. White has 35 steals this season to lead Georgetown.
The BIG EAST Freshman of the Year last season, Adomako averages 13.5 ppg to go with 5.7 rpg. Her status will play a huge role on Sunday.
Keys to the Game w/Georgetown
Although she may not turn green, Audrey Faber has sent a warning to the opposition. If she was held down in the previous game, look out. Three times this season Faber has been limited to single-digits, each time she has responded with 21 or more the next time out.
Looking for More from Sherwin Williams
Missing Brianna Rollerson, sidelined with a Jones fracture to her right foot, in the middle has taken its toll on Creighton this season. No area is more affected then the Bluejays production in the paint. The Bluejay are 0-7 when getting outscored by 10 or more in the paint, while Creighton is 6-1 if they are within nine.
The Company Faber Keeps
To say Audrey Faber, 226 points in 14 games, has gotten her Creighton career off to a fast start is obvious. Consider a few BIG EAST greats point totals after 15 games. (Research on this note provided by Matt DeMarinis of the White & Blue Review).

Lamberty Records Bluejays' First Double-Double of 2015-16

Starting Fresh Has Treated the Bluejays Well Under Flanery
Since Jim Flanery took them helm for the Bluejays to open the 2002-03 season Creighton is 9-4 in the first game of the calendar year. The first road conference game hasn't been quite as nice but the Bluejays still boast a 7-6 mark under Flan. In BIG EAST play the record is 1-1 in both categories.

Keys to the Game w/Georgetown
- Rebound/Protect the Paint: Last season in Omaha, Georgetown's Yazmine Belk grabbed 19 rebounds against Creighton. Combine that with the Bluejays' stuggles in the paint and it would be disasterous.
- Attack from Long Range: The Hoyas give up just over six trey per
- contest, Creighton has averaged 9.5 in the four meetings. Particularly if the Bluejays go small, Faber at the five position, Creighton will need to be on from downtown.
- Consistency: The Bluejays losses to St. John's and Seton Hall can be attributed to a lapse in a particular quarter. Against the Red Storm it was the fourth period (outscored 23-10), while versus Seton Hall it was the opening ten minutes (outscored 30-13).
Although she may not turn green, Audrey Faber has sent a warning to the opposition. If she was held down in the previous game, look out. Three times this season Faber has been limited to single-digits, each time she has responded with 21 or more the next time out.
