Bluejays Fall to Missouri, 72-63, in Opening Game at Junkanoo Jam

Bimini, Bahamas -- The Creighton women's basketball team suffered a 72-63 defeat by Missouri in the opening game for both teams at the Junkanoo Jam on Friday, Nov. 25.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 1-3 on the season, while Missouri moved to 4-1 overall.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, featuring 10 ties and nine lead changes. Neither team led by more than three throughout the first two periods.
Down 32-30 at the break, Creighton saw the Tigers score the opening bucket of the third quarter to push out to the largest lead of the game. The Bluejays responded with a driving layup from junior Sydney Lamberty followed by two free throws from sophomore Audrey Faber to knot the contest at 34-34. Missouri, however, responded with a 10-2 run, keyed by treys from Amber Smith and Lindsey Cunningham, to seize a 44-36 edge with 6:12 left. The Tigers went on to close out the period with a 53-42 advantage.
Missouri pushed its lead to as much as 16 at 59-43 early in the fourth. Down 69-56 with 3:21 left, the Bluejays made things interesting with layup from Faber and two free throws by senior MC McGrory to cut the deficit into single digits. Another defensive stop gave the Bluejays a look at a three-pointer to make it a six-point contest. The shot by senior Marissa Janning, however, rimmed out.
Janning led the Bluejays with 13 points, while McGrory finished with 12. Faber and Lamberty also finished in double figures with 11 and 10 respectively.
Missouri got 19 points from Cierra Porter, while Amber Smith finished with 17.
Creighton returns to the court on Saturday, Nov. 26 as the Bluejays battle Dayton at 3:15 pm (CT).
