Second Half Surge Lifts #10 Men's Basketball Over Buffalo

Double-doubles for Khyri Thomas and Justin Patton
OMAHA, Neb. -- Double-doubles by Khyri Thomas and Justin Patton helped No. 10 Creighton to a 93-72 win over Buffalo on Tuesday night. The Omaha duo were two of four Bluejay starters in double-figures on the evening.
Creighton improved to 7-0 on the year, while Buffalo dropped to 4-3.
The Bluejays 41-39 at the half before turning on the afterburners with a 52-point second half to pull away, as Thomas scored the first five points of the second stanza.
Buffalo got within three points at 54-51 with 14:02 to play, but would come no closer. Marcus Foster's deep three-pointer from the top of the key ignited a 13-0 flurry over the next 2:54.
Buffalo cut it to 12 (80-68) with 4:47 to play before Patton's lay-up triggered a game-clinching 10-0 run.
Patton had his first double-double, making 9-of-10 shots from the floor to finish with 21 points and 10 rebounds. In the process, he became just Creighton's third freshman in the last 25 years with a double-double, joining Ronnie Harrell Jr. and Doug McDermott. Thomas had 18 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for his first double-double as a Bluejay. He also had four steals and a blocked shot.
Foster led CU with 22 points on the night, making 7-of-9 shots after a 1-for-7 start. In the process, he surpassed 1,000 career points as a collegian. Maurice Watson Jr. also did some heavy lifting on offense with 15 points and eight assists.
CU shot 36-of-71 overall (50.7 percent) to remain the nation's only team to shoot 50 percent or better in every game this season. CU won the rebound battle 42-40 thanks to a +11 second half margin on the glass, and also picked up nine steals. CU turned 21 Buffalo turnovers into 23 points, and outscored UB 44-36 in the paint.
Blake Hamilton and Willie Conner each had 21 points to lead the defending Mid-American Conference Tournament champion Buffalo program, while Raheem Johnson added 14 points and seven rebounds.
Creighton returns to action on Saturday at 7 pm when it hosts Akron.
