Bluejay Women's Basketball Hosts Mavericks on Wednesday

Omaha, Neb. -- The Creighton women's basketball team will host the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks on Wednesday, Dec. 7 as the two teams play in front of more than 1,000 children for Cox Kids Day at D.J. Sokol Arena. The game is set to tip at 12:00 pm.

Series History: Nebraska-Omaha leads Creighton, 15-11

After renewing their rivalry two seasons ago, Creighton and UNO will meet for the 27th time on Wednesday.
The game will begin at 12:00 pm as the Bluejays have teammed with Cox Communications to provide tickets to over 1,000 children attending 11 different local school.
The Mavericks hold the 15-11 series edge on the Bluejays, but Creighton has won the last 10 meetings between the two schools.
Nebraska-Omaha head coach Brittany Lange began her playing career at Creighton in 2005-06. She played one season under current Creighton head coach Jim Flanery before transferring to Iowa State.
The Mavericks have added a couple of familiar faces in Michaela and Moriah Dapprich, the sisters played against the Bluejays as members of Wichita State.
Three members of the Maverick roster began their playing career at Wichita State as Marissa Prestion was also a Shocker.
Bluejay point guard Marissa Janning has a chance to move into the top-five of Bluejay scorers. She enters Wednesday's contest with 1,615 points, she needs 16 to take over fifth place all-time.

Nebraska-Omaha vs. Creighton Series:
The Mavericks lead the overall series with the Bluejays 15-11, but Creighton has won the last 10 meetings. Last season the Bluejays went to Baxter Arena on Dec. 20, 2015 as Creighton downed Nebraska-Omaha 69-46. The Bluejays and Mavericks renewed their rivalry in 2014 with a contest in D.J. Sokol Arena after not having played since 1988. The last Maverick victory came in 1982.

In her fourth season at the helm for the Mavericks, Lange has a 41-53 career record all at UNO.

The Mavericks have been hot recently,
winning three of their last four contests.
The key to UNO's offense are Mikaela Shaw and Michaela Dapprich. The duo average a combined 26.1 ppg, led by 15.0 from Shaw.
UNO will play a 2-3 zone on defense.
The Mavericks were highly competitive against Nebraska on Nov. 22, leading into the latter stages of the third quarter.

Keys to the Game w/Nebraska-Omaha

Shoot through the zone: UNO almost exclusively plays a 2-3 zone on defense, allowing open looks for the Bluejays three-point shooters.
Slow Down Shaw and Dapprich: Mikaela Shaw has the capacity to dominate portions of a game.
Protect the glass: The Mavericks own a 312-256 advantage on the glass this season. The Bluejays cannot allow UNO to get second and third looks at the rim.

Cox Kids Day
Head coach Jim Flanery and the 3-3 Bluejays will host Nebraska-Omaha on Cox Kids Day Wednesday afternoon at D.J. Sokol Arena inside the Wayne & Eileen Ryan Athletic Center (12:05 p.m., tip-off).

Owens Expected to Redshirt 2016-17
Out for the first six games of the 2016-17 season, junior point guard Jade Owens underwent exploratory surgery on her right hip on Nov. 30. During the procedure a partially torn ligament was confirmed, sidelining the Illinois native for at least 8-12 weeks. With the season already in its second month, Owens is expected to redshirt the 2016-17 season.

Janning Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll
Authoring one of her better games of the season, senior Marissa Janning's effort against Kansas on Wednesday, Nov. 30 earned her a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
Janning finished with 15 points on 6-of-9 from the field.

Bluejays Improve to 49-1 Under Flan When Shooting 50%
During Jim Flanery's tenure at the helm for Creighton, the Bluejays have shot 50% or more in 50 contests. Creighton has won 49 of those games, falling just once on Nov. 11, 2006 to Arkansas-Little Rock (66-55).
