Bluejay WBB Stares Down Meeting with Providence on Sunday

Omaha, Neb. - The Creighton women's basketball team heads to Providence to face the Friars on Sunday, Feb. 14. The matchup will be Providence's annual Pink Game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Creighton has won all five meetings have come since the two teams became members of the BIG EAST. The Bluejays also claimed a meeting in the WNIT in 1987. Creighton is 2-0 against the Friars in Providence. Â

Scouting Providence (4-19, 0-13 BIG EAST)
Providence has dropped 13 straight, all in BIG EAST play. The Friars are led by Sarah Beal in both overall (10.8 ppg) and BIG EAST action (9.2 ppg).
Since the first meeting with the Bluejays the Friars have struggled, dropping games by an average of 29.3 points.
Providence has been better at home this season, posted three of its four wins in Mullaney Gym.
The Friars biggest outside threat, Jovana 'Yoyo' Nogic has been cold since the first meeting with Creighton. Nogic was among the top-10 in the country entering the first meeting with the Bluejays, but has gone 1-of-19 over the past seven games. Â

Can a Replay Remove the Curse?
Prior to the first meeting between Providence and Creighton each squad had a freshman sharp shooter in the top-10 in the NCAA in three-point field goal percentage.
Before the game on Jan. 17, Creighton's Audrey Faber led the country at 50.6% from long range and Providence's Yoyo Nogic was seventh overall at 48.4%.
Since that game started Nogic is 1-for-19 from long range (5.2%) and Faber is 6-for-29 (20.7%).
The dynamic duo haven't done much better inside the arc. Faber is 19-of-70 (27.1%) from the field since Jan. 17, while Nogic is 10-of-44 (22.7%).

No area was more affected then the Bluejays production in the paint. Creighton is 9-0 when winning, or tying, the battle inside the paint. When getting outscored the Bluejays are 3-13 if they are within 10.

Entering the weekend the Bluejays are tied for sixth at 6-7, but by game time on Sunday Creighton could be alone in sixth or eighth. - Both the Friars and the Bluejays are coming off tough losses last Sunday. Creighton suffered a two-point setback on a buzzer beating shot at Xavier, while Providence was within five at Butler in the final period.

- Jump out early: Playing a team on an extended losing streak brings a host of mental battles. For the Bluejays it is important to get to a lead and keep the pressure on the Friars.
- Take care of the ball: In the first meeting Creighton had committed 17 turnovers.
