Creighton Concludes Troy Cox Classic with Setback to New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -Â In Day Two of competition in the Troy Cox Classic, Creighton was the beneficiary of impressive pitching performances, with Sydnee Eck tossing a combined 11 and two-thirds consecutive innings en route to striking out 19 batters and earning a pair of wins.
However, in the Bluejays' tournament finale, Creighton was on the other end of such a performance, as New Mexico State righthander Karysta Donisthorpe, the reigning WAC Pitcher of the Week, threw a complete-game one-hitter to lead the Aggies to a 9-0, five-inning win.

To compliment Donisthorpe's performance in the circle, the Aggies (9-2) manufactured nine runs on 13 hits. Senior Emma Adams went three-for-three in the contest and provided a second-inning grand slam that gave New Mexico State a 5-0 lead.
The Aggies, who won 47 games a year ago and captured the WAC Tournament championship, entered the weekend ranking among the nation's top 10 for batting average (.488), slugging percentage (.768), and scoring (9.60).
Nex Mexico State is 9-2 on the season, with both losses coming to fourteenth-ranked Oklahoma.
Creighton's Jen Daro finished one-for-two in the contest, extending her hit streak to three games. Daro homered three times and drove in a combined 10 runs in Creighton's two wins on Saturday.
Meanwhile, freshman lefthander Michal Hylton pitched two innings of relief for the Bluejays, allowing just one earned run.
The Bluejays posted a 3-2 record in the Troy Cox Classic, including commanding, 15-3 and 11-3 wins versus Campbell, and a 6-1 win over Western Michigan.
Creighton will continue non-conference play next weekend as the Bluejays travel to Denton, Texas to take part in the North Texas Invitational.
