Men's Basketball Romps Past St. John's On Senior Day, 100-59

Groselle and Milliken combine for 41 points in final home game
OMAHA, Neb. -- Geoffrey Groselle and James Milliken combined for 41 points on Senior Day as the Creighton men's basketball team closed out the home portion of the regular-season with a 100-59 win over St. John's on Sunday. The Bluejays never trailed in the victory, its largest on Senior Day since 1961, as Greg McDermott passed Red McManus for third on Creighton's all-time victory list with his 139th on the CU sideline.
Creighton is now 18-11 on the year and 9-7 in BIG EAST play before a difficult road trip next week to both Providence and Xavier. St. John's falls to 8-22 and is 1-16 in league action.
Groselle had his third double-double, making 8-of-9 shots from the field and finishing with 22 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. Milliken tallied 19 points, sinking 4-of-5 attempts from three-point range. Maurice Watson Jr. finished with 10 points and seven assists, while Cole Huff recorded 13 points and seven rebounds. Creighton shot 60.3 percent from the field and 8-of-19 from three-point range (42.1 percent). The Jays also controlled the rebound battle 47-21 and outscored SJU 52-22 in the paint.
St. John's was led by 17 points and four steals from Christian Jones, while Yankuba Sima owned 13 points before fouling out. The Red Storm shot 37.1 percent for the contest.
The teams traded baskets for much of the first six minutes before Creighton buried the Red Storm with a 35-10 run over the next nine minutes. Creighton made 11-of-12 shots in one stretch, sinking 7-of-8 three-pointers, to race to a 47-20 lead. Creighton led 53-24 at the half, shooting 18-for-27 from the field and 8-of-12 from downtown in the stanza.
St. John's coach Chris Mullin earned a technical foul in the first minute of the second half, then was ejected after a second technical foul with 13:42 to play. By that point, Creighton led 67-36 and the game was no longer in doubt. The Bluejays substituted liberally in the second half as all 12 men saw at least four minutes of playing time and all but one scored.
