Murray, Ky. -- Behind a combined 10 hits from the top three in the order, the Creighton Baseball team defeated Murray State 7-2 on Friday, March 4.
The win, Creighton's fourth in a row, lifted the Bluejays to 4-3 on the season. Murray State, meanwhile, fell to 5-5.
The trio of Daniel Woodrow, Nicky Lopez and Ryan Fitzgerald not only accounted for 10 of the Bluejays' 13 hits, the trio also delivered four runs, four RBI and two stolen bases in the Creighton victory.
Creighton got off to a fast start with two runs in the opening frame as Woodrow reached on a bunt single. The Illinois native went to second on a wild pitch, then scampered home when Lopez laced an RBI double to right. After a Fitzgerald single sent Lopez to third, senior Reagan Fowler's sac fly to center pushed the Bluejay lead to 2-0.
The Bluejays added another run in the second as Woodrow bounced a two-out single through the right side, stole second and scored via an RBI single by Lopez.
After Murray State got on the board with a run in the third, Creighton tacked on single runs in the next four frames to extend its lead to 7-1.
While the offense was clicking, starter Rollie Lacy held the Racers to one run over five innings to move to 2-1 on the year. Lacy allowed seven hits and did not walk a batter, while striking out three. Four Bluejay relievers nailed down the Creighton win, allowing one run on four hits the rest of the way.
Woodrow led the Bluejays with four hits on the afternoon.
The Bluejays and Racers continue the three-game series on Saturday, March 5 at 2:00 pm (CT).
