Kobe Paras Signs With Men's Basketball

Guard boasts tremendous international experience
OMAHA, Neb. -- Head coach Greg McDermott announced Monday that Kobe Paras has signed a scholarship agreement to play basketball at Creighton University. Paras, a 6-foot-6 guard from Manila, Philippines, will be a freshman and have four years of eligibility with the Bluejays.
Paras (pronounced PAR-riss) attended Cathedral High School in Los Angeles, Calif., but played last season for Middlebrooks Academy, also in Los Angeles. He's also played for the Compton Magic AAU program.
He comes highly-regarded from the recruiting services, being tabbed a four-star recruit by Scout, and a three-star prospect by ESPN and Rivals. Rivals ranked him the 128th-best player in the country in April.
"Kobe is a versatile, scoring, wing forward," said McDermott. "He's extremely athletic and has good natural instincts for the game of basketball."
Paras owns tremendous experience on the international level. He participated in the 2013 and 2015 FIBA 3-on-3 Under 18 World Championships. Though his team did not win either 3-on-3 tournament, he did win the dunk contest on both occasions. He also played for the Philippine National Team in the 2014 FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship.
His father, Benjie Paras, was a two-time Philippine Basketball Association MVP and in 1989 became the only player to win Rookie of the Year and MVP in the same season.
Creighton went 20-15 last season, advancing to the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament. The Bluejays have appeared in the postseason 18 of the last 19 years, and have ranked among the nation's top-10 in attendance in each of the past five seasons.
