Bluejay Women's Soccer Battles UMKC to 1-1 Tie

Omaha, Neb. -- Down 1-0 early in the first half, the Creighton women's soccer got the game-tying goal from senior Lauren Sullivan and battled UMKC to a 1-1 tie on Sunday, Aug. 21.
Following Sunday's action the Bluejays at 1-0-1 on the season, while UMKC moved to 0-1-1.
The Bluejays opened the match slightly tentative, allowing UMKC to take the first four shots of the contest. As the match moved into the latter portion of the opening period, Creighton settled in to create a few scoring chances. The Bluejays held a slim 8-6 edge on shots at the break in scoreless battle.
The Roos scratched the scoreboard first, tallying their goal in the 50th minute as Kelsey Mothershead blasted a shot from well beyond the box for UMKC's first goal of the season. Lexie Howard set up the play for the Roos, centering the ball to Mothershead.
Creighton pulled even in the 61st minute as freshman Caeley Lordemann headed a ball to Sullivan from about 30 yards out. The Missouri native weaved past two defenders to force goalkeeper Anna Lilig into a decision. The Kangaroo keeper choose to challenge Sullivan by coming to meet her. The result was an easy 21st career goal to tie the match at 1-1.
Each team had chances to claim the match down the stretch, but settled for the draw.
UMKC closed the contest with 19-16 edge in shots, while Creighton created more corners (7-4).
Creighton returns to action on Friday, Aug. 26 as the Bluejays face off against Nebraska-Omaha on the Mavericks' pitch at 8:00 pm.
