Five Teams Honored By BIG EAST For Academic Excellence

Women's basketball, women's cross country, men's cross country, women's golf and men's tennis honored
NEW YORK – Five Creighton teams were recognized on Thursday, Aug. 4 for having the highest collective grade-point averages in their BIG EAST Conference sport. CU's teams that were honored included women's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, women's golf and men's tennis.
All five Bluejay teams to earn recognition have GPA's of 3.49 or better, led by the 3.74 GPA attained by the women's cross country team.
It's Creighton's third straight honor for women's golf, and second consecutive honor for men's cross country. The five honors are more than Creighton's first two seasons in the BIG EAST, combined.
The BIG EAST Conference recognized 22 teams with 2015-16 Team Academic Excellence Award overall.
Eight different schools had at least one team honored, with DePaul leading the way with six certificates. Creighton had five teams recognized, followed by Seton Hall with three. Butler, Georgetown and St. John's each boasted a pair of honorees, while Villanova and affiliate member Temple rounded out the list of schools recognized with its solo nod.
The winners were chosen based on the 2015-16 grade-point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster as of the last contest of the championship segment in each conference-sponsored sport.
