OMAHA, Neb. - Twelve Creighton University teams posted perfect Graduation Success Rates and all 14 Bluejay programs performed at 84 percent or higher according to figures released by the NCAA. Creighton had an overall GSR score of 97 percent, which was tied for 24th-best nationally.
The GSR data shows the percentage of student-athletes receiving athletics aid and earning a degree within six years of entering college. The GSR formula removes from the rate student-athletes who leave school while academically eligible and includes student-athletes who transfer to a school after initially enrolling elsewhere. This calculation provides a more accurate appraisal of student-athlete success. The 2024 GSR numbers are based on freshmen who matriculated in 2017 and transfers who matriculated between 2014 and 2017.
Creighton turned in a perfect GSR score of 100 percent in volleyball, women's tennis, women's soccer, softball, women's golf, rowing, women's basketball, women's cross country/track, men's tennis, men's golf, men's cross country/track and men's soccer. It's the 20th straight year with a perfect GSR score for men's golf, women's golf, women's tennis and women's basketball, and the ninth straight reporting period that men's tennis has earned a perfect score.
Nationally, 91 percent of student-athletes who started college in 2017 earned degrees. That figure is far better than the 74 percent mark when GSR tracking started in 2002. All 11 BIG EAST schools achieved an overall GSR of 90 percent or better.
The BIG EAST ranks third among all 32 D-I conferences with an overall Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 95 percent, which is four points higher than this year's national average of 91 percent. The Graduation Success Rate, which measures six-year graduation rates, included student-athletes who entered school in the fall of 2017.
"The increases and record highs in graduation success rates over the last two decades demonstrate the unique talents, abilities and tenacity of college athletes to achieve academic excellence, while performing at the highly competitive level of Division I athletics," said Robert Davies, president emeritus of Central Michigan and chair of the Division I Committee on Academics. "The Committee on Academics applauds student-athletes for their remarkable achievements and celebrates college educators and campus leaders for their commitment to advancing student-athlete academic success."
Creighton is one of 21 schools with a GSR score of 95 percent or better in each of the last 11 cycles, joining Belmont, Brown, Bucknell, Colgate, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Davidson, Duke, Gonzaga, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Loyola (Md.), Northwestern, Notre Dame, Pennsylvania, Princeton, Stanford and Yale.
