Chicago, Ill. -- The Creighton women's soccer team dropped its first BIG EAST match of the season, falling 4-2 at DePaul on Thursday, Sept. 29.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 6-2-2 on the season and 1-1-0 in conference play, while DePaul moved to 5-4-2 overall and 2-0-0 in BIG EAST action.
DePaul got on the board early, scoring goals in the 13th and 17th minutes to race out to a 2-0 edge.
After rallying from down 0-2 against Marquette last weekend, the Bluejays remained confident. Those feelings got stronger as senior Emily Roll found freshman Caeley Lordemann with a free kick inside the box for a goal in the 23rd minute. The play was set up by a Blue Demon foul, allowing Roll to serve the ball into the center of the box for Lordemann to head into the back of the net.
DePaul's Alexa Ben responded with consecutive goals in the 29th and 38th minutes to push the Blue Demon lead to 4-1.
Just before halftime the Bluejays showed their fight as sophomore Kaira Houser found senior Lauren Sullivan for a goal. Houser sent a crossing pass to Sullivan, who found the back of the net from 10-yards out for her eighth goal of the season.
The intense offense of the first half was stymied by improved defensive play in the final 45 minutes as neither time scored.
Although all the scoring came in the opening period, DePaul fired off seven shots in the second half. For the match the Blue Demons held a 14-4 edge in shots and a 9-1 advantage in corners.
