Creighton picked up its first win when trailing after six innings since Feb. 6, 2015
The Bluejays defeated Weber State 9-6 and dropped a 3-2 contest against Illinois-Chicago.
Creighton is now 4-10 on the season after a 2-2 showing in California.
The Bluejays scored nine runs in the seventh inning to pull off a comeback victory over Weber State during the Jays' first game on Saturday afternoon. Nine different players scored during the final-inning rally.
The inning started with Creighton's first triple of the season off the bat of Ashley Cantu.
Anna O'Gorman grounded out and Allie Reinhart reached on a fielder's choice that kept the Jays off the scoreboard. Reinhart hit the ball back to the pitcher who fired towards home as Cantu broke for the plate. Cantu was out in a rundown on the third-base line for the second out of the inning, but Reinhart ended up at second on the play.
The quick two outs did not spoil the late-inning comeback.
Sam Dellinger drove in the Bluejays' first run of the game with a single to right field, and Jordyn Sturgeon followed with a triple to right-center field to make it 6-2.
After Jen Daro was hit by the pitch for the 31st time in her Creighton career (second-most all-time), Sam Crowley delivered with her third hit of the game to drive in Sturgeon from third.
Tash Coffiel doubled to drive in both Daro and Crowley to make it 6-5, and advanced to third on an error to stand 60 feet away from tying the game.
Pinch-hitter Jayci McGill extended the inning and helped tie game as she reached on an error. The error on the Wildcats' shortstop allowed McGill to reach first base safely and Coffiel to cross home plate and knot the score at 6-6.
Cantu and O'Gorman, each in their second at-bats of the inning, reached to load the bases for Reinhart.
Reinhart delivered the game-winning hit with a two-RBI single to center field and gave Creighton an 8-6 lead.
Dellinger picked up her second hit of the inning and O'Gorman scored on an error before Sturgeon grounded out to end the rally.
Creighton sent 14 hitters to the plate and scored nine runs on eight hits and three errors in the top of the seventh.
The Bluejays previous game-high for hits this season was eight, which the team achieved on Friday against South Dakota in a losing effort.
Dellinger sealed the victory by stranding a runner at third base in the bottom of the final frame.
Cantu, Crowley and Dellinger each finished with three hits to lead the offense that finished with 13 base knocks against the Wildcats.
The nine-run seventh inning marked the most runs in a single inning since the Bluejays scored nine runs in the second inning against Georgetown on April 9, 2016.
Saturday afternoon's victory also marked Creighton's first win when trailing after six innings since Feb. 6, 2015 against Western Michigan. The Bluejays trailed 5-4 heading to the seventh in that game before the Jays scored four in their final at-bat.
Since joining the BIG EAST in 2014, Creighton is now 2-52 when trailing after six innings.
Weber State scored two runs in both the first and fourth innings and added one in the third and sixth. Sara Hingsberger finished the day 2-for-3 with a double and five RBIs to lead the Wildcats.
In the Jays' second game of the day, Illinois-Chicago scored one run in the first and two in the seventh to take a three-run lead into bottom of the seventh.
Creighton scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the final frame, as an RBI-triple from Aujanae McCoy drove in Crowley before McCoy scored on an error.
Two consecutive batters grounded into outs to end the game and strand the tying-run on base.
One night after throwing a shutout, Michal Hylton did not allow an Illinois-Chicago hit until the sixth inning, struck out three and allowed one earned run during her third complete game of the season.
Creighton's 11 runs scored during in the seventh inning of both games on Saturday surpassed the total number of runs the Bluejays scored during the seventh frame in each of the last two seasons (nine in 2016 and nine in 2015).
The Jays return to action next weekend in Phoenix, Ariz. Creighton will play both Grand Canyon and Maine twice on March 4 and 5.
