Series History
Winthrop and Creighton have met once previously with the Eagles earning a 4-3 win on Feb. 10, 2007. In that contest Winthrop came into the game ranked 25th in the country and hosted a season-opening tournament with the Bluejays, Maryland and Gardner-Webb.
Luevano and Gerber Finish Off Aggies for Series Win
Creighton and UC Davis split the first two games of its three-game series and once the Aggies jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third the scales appeared to tip in their favor. Creighton chipped away with a run in the third, another in the sixth and finally pulled even in the seventh. Looking to atone for some miscues in the field, sophomore Thomas Luevano smashed a game-winning solo home run to left field in the bottom of the eighth to push the Bluejays up 4-3. Senior David Gerber made certain Luevano's blast was all Creighton needed by setting down the Aggies in order by strikeout in the ninth. Gerber struck out all six batters he faced to claim his first win of the season.
