No. 23 Men's Soccer Drops Match To No. 1 Stanford, 3-0

Creighton managed only one shot on goal
PALO ALTO, Calif. – The No. 23 Creighton men's soccer team fell 3-0 to No. 1 Stanford on Friday night in Palo Alto, California.
The Bluejays fell to 1-2-0, while the Cardinal improved to 2-0-0.
Stanford, the two-time defending national champions, took an early lead during the ninth minute. Corey Baird tight-roped the end line before finding Foster Langsdorf inside the six-yard box. Langsdorf received the pass while rushing the goalline and sent the ball into the back of the net to give the Cardinal an early 1-0 lead.
The Cardinal controlled possession throughout the majority of the first half and held an 8-2 edge in shots during the first 45 minutes.
Creighton goalkeeper Michael Kluver made two saves before the half.
Stanford extended its lead less than 10 minutes into the second half. Langsdorf connected for his second goal of the match during the 55th minute to make it 2-0.
The Cardinal made it 3-0 during the 65th minute. Baird headed the ball from about 15 yards out towards the far post and into the back of the net.
Baird ended the night with a goal and two assists.
Sven Koenig tallied Creighton's lone shot on goal of the night during the 66th minute, but Stanford's Nico Corti recorded a save on the attempt.
The Bluejays took seven shots overall and managed three corner kicks. The Cardinal finished with an 8-1 edge in shots on goal.
Each team took a total of five shots during the second half. Akeem Ward paced Creighton with two shots during the full time, while five other players recorded one a piece.
Kluver concluded the match with five saves for the Bluejays.
Both teams battled the heat on Friday, as the temperature fluctuated in the 90s throughout the match.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Sunday afternoon for a match against California. Kickoff on Sunday in Berkeley, California is scheduled for 3 p.m. Central.
