Women's Basketball Rebounds to Defeat Providence, 73-56

Omaha, Neb. --- Led by a double-double from senior Sydney Lamberty, the Creighton women's basketball team downed Providence 73-56 on Saturday, Jan. 13th.
The win moved the Bluejays to 10-7 on the season and 4-3 in BIG EAST play, while Providence fell to 8-11 overall and 1-6 in conference action.
Lamberty and sophomore Ali Green put their stamp on the game in the opening quarter with a combined eight points, seven rebounds and two assists in the first 10 minutes to help the Bluejays race out to a 21-11 lead after one. Up 3-2 early in the contest, Creighton scored 15 of the next 17 points to burst out to an 18-4 edge with 2:43 left. Four different Jays contributed to the run, started with a trey from sophomore Jaylyn Agnew. Senior Bailey Norby followed with two free throws. After a Friar bucket, Lamberty and freshman Temi Carda dropped in buckets to make it 12-4. The duo of Lamberty and Carda went back to work moments later, canning triples to cap the Bluejay run.
Creighton continued its dominance in the opening of the second, outscoring Providence 8-2 in the first three minutes. This time the run included three-pointers from juniors Audrey Faber and Brooke Kissinger as well as a layup from Agnew to push the Bluejay edge to 29-13 (7:00). Creighton closed the period with another mini burst of five straight points on a layup from Greene and a trifecta from senior Myah Mellman to take a 41-21 lead into the locker room.
Another quick start in the third quarter pushed the Creighton edge to 52-26 (6:33), capped by an 8-0 run on treys from Agnew and Lamberty as well as a layup from Norby. Providence got no closer than 16 points, the rest of the way.
Faber led the Bluejays with 16 points, while Agnew delivered 15 points. Lamberty closed the contest with 10 points and 11 assists, while Carda also reached double-figures with 10 points. Providence got 15 points, including a three-quarter court heave at the end of the first quarter, from Jovana Nogic and 10 points from Channell Williams.
Creighton returns to the hardwood on Friday, Jan. 19th as the Bluejays battle Butler at 6:00 pm.
