Katie Sullivan Claims Second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Honor

Omaha, Neb. -- Playing just one match this week, Creighton goalkeeper Katie Sullivan made the most the squad's Sunday battle with Villanova as the freshman posted a shutout 1-0 win, collecting six saves in the process. Sullivan's efforts earned the Illinois native her second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week award on Monday, Oct. 15.
The victory over the Wildcats was Creighton's first road BIG EAST win in over three years, lifting the Bluejays to 3-3-0 in BIG EAST action this season.
Sullivan and the Bluejays remain on the road throughout the week as Creighton faces Butler on Thursday evening at 6:00 pm. The team will not be missing classes as the university is on fall break this week.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week: Katie Sullivan, Creighton R-Fr., GK
Sullivan picks up her second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolade after making six saves in a 1-0 shutout win at Villanova on Saturday. The redshirt-freshman had four second-half saves to keep the charging Wildcats off the board and bump Creighton into a tie for fifth place with Villanova in the conference standings.
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week: Zsani Kajan, St. John's, R-So., F
Kajan posted her second straight two-goal game as the Red Storm won at Seton Hall 2-0 on Saturday. The redshirt-sophomore scored her 10th of the season just 24 seconds out of halftime, before adding an insurance score, her 11th of the season, in the 64th. The win moved St. John's into a tie for third place in the BIG EAST standings.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week: Jenna Staudt, Georgetown, Sr., D
The fourth-ranked Hoyas picked up their fifth shutout of BIG EAST play and clinched a berth in the conference championship with the 1-0 victory over Providence on Sunday. Staudt anchored a defense which limited the Friars to just six shots, four on goal, on the afternoon, while completely shutting down PC's top offensive threat, Hannah McNulty. McNulty, who entered the contest averaging a BIG EAST-high 4.57 attempts for contest, was held without a shot for the first time this season. Georgetown has allowed just one goal in league play this season.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week: Toni Bizzarro, Xavier, Jr., GK
Bizzarro earned her sixth shutout of the season, second in BIG EAST play, with eight saves against Marquette on Sunday. The eight stops were most by a BIG EAST goalkeeper last week, while Bizzarro was one of four to collect a shutout win. Xavier topped Marquette 3-0 to move into a tie for third place in the BIG EAST standings.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Samantha Dewey, Xavier, R-Jr., F
Dewey posted a goal and assist in the Musketeers' 3-0 win over Marquette on Sunday. The redshirt-junior assisted on Xavier's 58th-minute score before putting one in the back of the net herself in the 84th.
Caitlin Farrell, Georgetown, Sr., F
Farrell scored her 14th goal of the season, fifth of the game-winning variety, this time in the 83rd minute against Providence on Sunday. It marked the ninth consecutive game the BIG EAST's leading scorer notched a goal.
Julia Leonard, Butler, So., D
Leonard led a Butler defense which limited DePaul to just six shots, three on goal, in the 2-1 win over the Blue Demons. DePaul entered the contest averaging over 14 shots per league game.
Meredith Reinhardt, St. John's, R-So., GK
Reinhardt picked up her third shutout of the season with two saves at Seton Hall on Saturday.

Soderstrom scored the 88th-minute game winner against DePaul to give the Bulldogs their 10th victory of the season. The goal was the freshman's second of the season and first of the game-winning kind.
