
Men's Soccer Up To No. 8 In United Soccer Coaches Poll

The Bluejays are ranked in the top 10 for the third time this season
The Bluejays improved to 9-2-1 overall and 5-0-0 in BIG EAST play with a 3-1 win at Xavier on Friday night. Creighton jumped ahead four spots after being ranked 12th last week and is listed in the top 10 of the poll for the third time this season (Sept. 25, No. 9; Oct. 2, No. 8).Â
Sven Koenig paces the squad and leads the BIG EAST in goals (7), while nine different Bluejays have scored goals during 12 matches this season. Creighton leads the conference in scoring with 1.58 goals per contest.Â
Akeem Ward leads the Bluejays in assists with four, while Younes Boudadi and Yudai Tashiro each have three.Â
Freshman goalkeeper Paul Kruse has started all 12 matches for Creighton and claims a 0.484 goals against average during 1,115 minutes of action, which is the best mark in the BIG EAST and ranks sixth nationally. The Germany native, owns a BIG EAST-best six shutouts, which is tied for 10th in Division I.
Creighton is the lone BIG EAST school listed in this week's Top 25. Georgetown received two votes.ÂWake Forest moved back into the No. 1 position and has been the top team in seven out of eight regular-season coaches polls. Indiana, Kentucky, Saint Mary's and North Carolina rounded out the top five spots.
The Bluejays are also listed at No. 14 in the latest official RPI which was released by the NCAA on Monday.Â
Creighton returns to the pitch tonight (Tuesday) at Akron for its final nonconference match of the regular season. The Bluejays close the year with four BIG EAST contests, including three at Morrison Stadium.
