Women's Soccer Battles Marquette to 0-0 Draw
10/21/2018 4:01:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Omaha, Neb. - The Creighton women's soccer squad battled Marquette to a 0-0 draw as the Bluejays celebrated seniors Kaira Houser and Maureen Kerr in the final home game of the 2018 season.
Creighton moved to 6-9-1 on the season and 3-4-1 in BIG EAST play following the match, while Marquette closed the contest 3-11-3 overall and 1-5-2 in BIG EAST play.
An important factor in the match was a consistent wind blowing at 15+ MPH to the northwest. The result was Creighton dominating possession in the opening half, then Marquette turning the tables with the wind in the second period.
The Bluejays out shot Marquette 20-14 in the match, but held an 8-2 advantage in the opening frame. Despite not having the wind in the second half, the Bluejays two best chances went into the wind as twice junior Taryn Jakubowski was denied by a team save. Marquette's Bri Jaeger and Maddie Monticello each collected saves to back Golden Eagle goalkeeper Maddy Henry, who closed the match with four saves on her own.
In the extra sessions the Bluejays fired off two shots, while Marquette managed one against the wind in the final ten minutes.
Creighton closes out the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 25 as the Bluejays face Providence at 6:00 pm in a must win affair. With a win Creighton earns a berth into the BIG EAST Tournament, while a loss or draw ends the Bluejays season.
