Women's Basketball Open BIG EAST Play at DePaul on Saturday

Omaha, Neb. -- Coming off two victories in the Florida Sunshine Classic before the holiday, the Creighton women's basketball opens BIG EAST play on Saturday, Dec. 29 on the road against preseason favorite DePaul. The game is set to tip at 7:00 pm.

Series with DePaul: Creighton Trails 11-2
Creighton trails the overall series with DePaul 11-2. The Bluejays are looking for their first road win against the Blue Demons Saturday night. Creighton claimed the first meeting between the two teams as foes in the BIG EAST, but DePaul has taken the last nine battles.

Scouting Creighton (6-5)
Creighton rolls into BIG EAST play with five victories in its last six contests. The Bluejays face two of their toughest games of the BIG EAST schedule, heading into DePaul and Marquette. Though Creighton will enter the opening weekend of conference play with some confidence as the Bluejays earned a share of the Sunshine Classic, highlighted by a win over South Florida.
Senior Audrey Faber shined in Florida, averaging 19.0 points per game over the two contests. During the two games the Bluejays shot 50% in each game and dished out 18 and 19 assists in back-to-back victories.
Scouting #19 DePaul (9-3)
Like the Bluejays, DePaul enters BIG EAST play on a winning streak as the Blue Demons have won five straight. DePaul's losses this season have come to Connecticut, Notre Dame and in overtime to Syracuse (all former BIG EAST foes).
The Blue Demons are a balanced squad, led by 13.8 ppg from Ashton Millender and 13.5 ppg from Chante Stonewall. DePaul has nine players averaging 5.9 ppg or more, including all five starters.
DePaul shares the basketball extremely well, averaging 20.5 assists per contest and forces 21.1 turnovers per game.
Scouting #21 Marquette (9-3)
Similar to DePaul the Golden Eagles have dropped just three games, falling to #2 Notre Dame in its final game before the holiday break. Marquette will face Providence on Saturday, prior to Monday's battle with the Bluejays.
The Golden Eagles are another balanced squad with six players averaging better than eight points per game. The BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year, Allazia Blockton, leads the Golden Eagles with 17.4 ppg, but guard Natisha Hiedeman is just a step back at 15.4 ppg.
Marquette likes to play up tempo, causing chaos defensively as the Golden Eagles force 20.2 turnovers per contest and average just under 11 steals (10.7) per game.

With consecutive victories over South Florida (83-76 on Dec. 20) and Vanderbilt (75-55 on Dec. 21), Creighton earned a share of the Florida Sunshine Classic with a 2-0 record. Miami also went 2-0, while Alabama and Virginia each finished the tournament 1-1. South Florida and Vanderbilt closed the tournament with 0-2 marks.
Faber and Carda Named to Sunshine Classic All-Tournament Team
Following the Bluejays' win over Vanderbilt a 12-person Florida Sunshine Classic All-Tournament Team was announced, Faber and sophomore Temi Carda represented the Bluejays on the squad. Faber averaged 19.0 points per game in the two day tournament, while Carda averaged 13.0 ppg and 5.5 rpg.
Carda Comes Up Clutch in Bluejays' 83-76 Win Over South Florida
After surrendering the lead for the first time with just over three minutes remaining, sophomore Temi Carda took control for the Creighton women's basketball team. The Minnesota native scored 10 of her team-high 18 points in the final 204 seconds to lead Creighton to an 83-76 win over South Florida on Thursday, Dec. 20.
Bluejay Winning Has Come With Sharing The Rock
With five victories in its last six games, the Creighton Bluejays have seen a pattern develop. The Bluejays are 6-1 when they've dished out 16 assists or more, but are 0-4 when collecting 14 assists or less.
Creighton Maxing Out Their Long Distance Plans
Through 11 games Creighton has reached double digit buckets from beyond the arc eight times and have already knocked down 120 treys this season. The Bluejay record for three-pointers in one season is 302 during the 2012-13 campaign. The record for most
