Softball's Sam Crowley Named To NFCA All-Region Third Team

Crowley hit .400 and slugged .633 for the Bluejays
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Creighton softball outfielder Sam Crowley earned a spot on the 2018 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Great Lakes Region Third Team, the organization announced on Thursday morning.Â
Crowley is the first Bluejay to receive recognition from the NFCA since Becca Changstrom in 2014.Â
Crowley paced Creighton with a .633 slugging percentage, including a team-best seven home runs, and ranked second on the team with a .400 batting average and 48 hits. She also scored 29 times and drove in 33 runs.Â
The Green Bay, Wisconsin, native, started 41 games for Creighton and did not commit an error during 62 chances in center field.Â
Additionally, the senior owned 17 sacrifice hits and led Division I with 0.41 sacrifice hits per game.Â
Earlier this month, Crowley earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors and recognition on the Google Cloud Academic All-District VII First Team.Â
The Creighton softball team finished the 2018 season with a 28-15 record, including a 12-3 mark during BIG EAST play (second place). The Bluejays also advanced to the title game at the 2018 BIG EAST Championship presented by Jeep in Rosemont, Illinois before falling to DePaul.
A total of 389 student-athletes from 164 programs received 2018 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades. Â
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2018 NFCA Division I All-American squads.
